Journey of Hope Fund
Moby is proudly supporting State Rep. Allen Peake of Macon in his unselfish effort to get needed medical assistance for children with severe seizure disorders. Peake introduced HB 885 to legalizecannabidiol oil for a stud at the Medical College of Georgia / Georgia Regents University. Here is an open letter from Rep. Peake to all Georgians and all Moby listeners.
To the HB 885 family,
I am so sorry for not sending this message earlier, but I wanted to followup on Governor Nathan Deal's announcement last week that he was going to move forward on clinical trials for cannabidiol oil at Georgia Regents University (GRU, formerly called the Medical College of Georgia). While we all experienced incredible disappointment in HB 885 not passing, the Governor's actions are a HUGE step in the right direction. In fact, him taking the lead and ownership on this initiative could be in fact better than passing the original bill, as it puts the weight, influence and political muscle of the Governor's office behind making it happen. So the announcement is VERY GOOD NEWS! Many have asked, when will it be available?? That question is still to be answered, but again, having the Governor behind the push only makes the process go faster.
I understand many of you have been disappointed that the immunity provision was not included, and you need to know there was nothing the Governor legally could have done to enact that provision. It has be done by legislation, and be assured, that it will be the very first bill I introduce next session in January 2015, and I'm hoping that both the House and Senate will act quickly, sending the bill to the Governor immediately for signature so that early in 2015, families can come home. I will fight diligently to make that happen.
In the meantime, we have established a partnership with an existing non-profit here in Georgia that provides financial assistance for medical expenses to families in Georgia. This new fund will be called the JOURNEY OF HOPE FUND, and we will begin taking applications from interested families immediately. It will be limited to Georgia citizens who have children with seizure disorders who desire to relocate to another state for a short period of time. It will be based on financial and medical need, and will attempt to cover transportation expenses and up to 6 months rent. We will give every penny donated to families to help them with this transition. If you or a family you know has an interest, they will need to contact me via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. That will start the process. And if you want to donate, or have folks that would like to, here's what you need to know:

We have $50,000 already committed to help start the fund, so resources are available. We will help as many families as we can, and will partner with Child Epilepsy Project to aid citizens in Georgia.
I remain as committed as every to helping your families and other families in Georgia to provide medical cannabis oil as an option for your children. We have just begun the fight ...
